Women Enterprises under Kudumbashree

Observations:

  • Number of Enterprises: There was a substantial increase in the number of enterprises, from 54,471 in 2021-22 to 106,981 in 2022-23, a growth of 96.5%.
  • Number of Women Members: The number of women members also grew, from 175,006 to 283,512, reflecting a 62% increase.
  • Women per Enterprise: The average number of women members per enterprise decreased from 3.21 in 2021-22 to 2.65 in 2022-23, indicating a decline in the representation of women in newer enterprises.

Conclusion:

While both the number of enterprises and women members have increased, the rate of growth in women’s participation is slower compared to the growth in enterprises. This suggests that although more enterprises are being created, women are not joining these new enterprises at the same rate. The decrease in women per enterprise signals a potential gender gap in the expanding business sector, highlighting the need for targeted initiatives to increase female participation and retention in these growing enterprises.
