PERCENTAGE DISTRIBUTION OF 2011 CENSUS SMOOTHED POPULATION BY AGE AND SEX FOR INDIA AND STATES



The 2011 Census shows that India’s population is concentrated in the younger and working-age groups, with 0–14 years making up around 23.5% and 15–59 years about 56.7%. The population share declines steadily with age, dropping to just 1% for those 80 and above. Males slightly outnumber females in younger groups, while females dominate older age brackets due to higher life expectancy.
