Yarn Sector
The number of working coir co-operative societies has been steadily declining from 505 in 2019-20 to 429 in 2023-24.
The total number of workers also dropped from 28,626 in 2019-20 to 17,257 in 2023-24, indicating a significant reduction in employment opportunities.
Husk and fibre purchases decreased consistently over the years, showing reduced raw material procurement.
Yarn production fell sharply from 32,653 tonnes in 2021-22 to 16,336.63 tonnes in 2023-24.
Wages paid declined from Rs. 4,854.59 lakh in 2021-22 to Rs. 2,821.77 lakh in 2023-24, reflecting contraction in operations and production.
Product Sector (Mats, Mattings & Small-scale Producer Co-operatives)
The number of working societies in the product sector slightly increased from 76 in 2019-20 to 82 in 2023-24.
Despite the rise in societies, the number of workers decreased sharply from 8,760 to 2,970 over the same period.
The value of production declined substantially from Rs. 20,956.44 lakh in 2019-20 to Rs. 11,112.14 lakh in 2023-24.
Wages paid dropped drastically from Rs. 8,773.39 lakh in 2019-20 to Rs. 788.9 lakh in 2023-24, showing reduced productivity and worker engagement.
