Area, Production and Productivity of Coconut in Kerala and India

From 2012-13 to 2023-24, Kerala’s coconut cultivation area remained fairly stable around 760–800 thousand hectares. However, coconut production and productivity showed a fluctuating trend. After peaking in 2014-15, both production and productivity dipped steadily until 2020-21, when Kerala recorded its lowest productivity (6228 nuts/ha). Though there was a slight recovery afterward, productivity in 2023-24 (7211 nuts/ha) still remained lower than earlier peak years. In comparison, India's overall coconut productivity has consistently been higher than Kerala’s, showing a more stable and upward trend over the years, indicating better yield efficiency at the national level.
