
Observations on Production and Productivity under Powerloom Industry (2019–20 to 2023–24):
The total number of powerlooms in Kerala increased from 979 in 2019–20 to 1,745 in 2023–24, showing gradual sectoral growth.
The cooperative sector’s share of total looms fell from 81.82% to 39.65%, indicating a shift toward the private or unorganised sector.
Production in the cooperative sector dropped sharply from 62.73 lakh metres (2019–20) to 10.35 lakh metres (2023–24), whereas the private/unorganised sector expanded significantly to 54.91 lakh metres.
Value of production rose steeply in the private sector from Rs. 97.25 lakh (2019–20) to Rs. 8,865.53 lakh (2023–24), highlighting its growing dominance.
Employment of women increased from 402 to 874, mainly in the private sector, showing an encouraging trend in gender participation.
