Observations on Production and Productivity under Powerloom Industry (2019–20 to 2023–24):

  • The total number of powerlooms in Kerala increased from 979 in 2019–20 to 1,745 in 2023–24, showing gradual sectoral growth.

  • The cooperative sector’s share of total looms fell from 81.82% to 39.65%, indicating a shift toward the private or unorganised sector.

  • Production in the cooperative sector dropped sharply from 62.73 lakh metres (2019–20) to 10.35 lakh metres (2023–24), whereas the private/unorganised sector expanded significantly to 54.91 lakh metres.

  • Value of production rose steeply in the private sector from Rs. 97.25 lakh (2019–20) to Rs. 8,865.53 lakh (2023–24), highlighting its growing dominance.

  • Employment of women increased from 402 to 874, mainly in the private sector, showing an encouraging trend in gender participation.
