Non Communicable Disease Cases and Deaths in Kerala – 2023

In 2023, Kerala recorded nearly 40 lakh non-communicable disease cases and over 4,300 deaths. Hypertension was the most common, with 23 lakh cases but very few deaths, showing it is largely under control. The major causes of death were heart diseases, stroke, cancers, chronic kidney failure, and lung diseases like emphysema. Ischemic heart disease (792 deaths), other cardiovascular diseases (575), stroke (415), cancers (over 850), and chronic kidney failure (331) topped the list of fatalities. Asthma, bronchitis, and emphysema added more illness and deaths, while mental disorders and obesity showed many cases but almost no reported deaths. The figures show Kerala’s challenge of tackling both widespread lifestyle diseases and serious high-risk conditions, stressing the need for prevention, early detection, and better treatment.
