Between 1971 and 2020, Kerala saw a sharp decline in infant mortality rate (IMR) from 58 to 6, consistently performing better than the national average, which dropped from 129 to 28. Kerala’s rural and urban IMRs fell significantly, indicating equitable healthcare access. In contrast, India showed slower progress, with rural areas consistently having higher IMRs than urban ones. The data highlights Kerala's effective healthcare system and its success in reducing infant deaths compared to national trends.
