Anaemia among Children and Pregnant Women

Increase in Anaemia Rates:

•    The prevalence of anaemia among children has increased from 35.7% (NFHS 4) to 39.4% (NFHS 5), indicating a rise of 3.7 percentage points.
•    Among women, the percentage rose from 22.6% (NFHS 4) to 31.4% (NFHS 5), reflecting an increase of 8.8 percentage points.
•    The data shows that the anaemia rate is higher in children (39.4%) compared to women (31.4%) in the latest survey (NFHS 5). This indicates a greater prevalence of anaemia among children than among pregnant women.

Conclusion

•    The analysis reveals a troubling trend of increasing anaemia among both children and pregnant women, with particularly high rates among children.
•    This emphasizes the need for focused nutritional interventions and health programs to address anaemia in these vulnerable populations.
