The data shows a steady widening of the milk price spread between producers and consumers over the years. While producer prices gradually increased from around ₹27–31 per litre in 2013–14 to ₹44–46 in 2023–24, consumer prices rose more sharply from ₹33–35 to around ₹46–50 during the same period. As a result, the price difference generally expanded, especially after 2017–18, with some regions like ERCMPU showing consistently higher spreads. Overall, the trend indicates rising consumer prices outpacing producer gains, reflecting increasing marketing, processing and distribution costs in the dairy sector.
