Projected Total Population by Sex as on 1st March - 2011 - 2036


The table shows projected population figures by age and gender for the years 2011, 2021, 2026, and 2036. The total population rises steadily from 33.4 million in 2011 to 36.9 million in 2036. The number of females remains slightly higher than males throughout. There is a clear decline in the number of children (especially those aged 0–14), suggesting falling birth rates. At the same time, the number of older people (aged 60 and above) increases sharply. Notably, the 80+ population grows more than three times, showing a clear trend of an ageing population.
